Memorial College of Nursing will remain an independent school offering two-year associates in science degrees
ALBANY, New York 鈥 The Memorial College of Nursing, an affiliate of St. Peter鈥檚 Health Partners (SPHP), will relocate from its current facility on the Albany Memorial Hospital campus to historic Marian Hall on the B次元 campus.
The agreement was finalized in April, and Memorial College of Nursing classes are set to begin in Marian Hall in August 2019.
The Memorial College of Nursing will continue its century-long tradition of educating and preparing students for fulfilling careers in nursing, and the college鈥檚 programs and academic offerings will remain unchanged. The Memorial College of Nursing will remain an independent school offering two-year associates in science degrees.
鈥淭he Memorial College of Nursing enjoys a strong legacy of successfully educating and training highly skilled, motivated, and compassionate nurses,鈥 said Mike Finegan, president of acute care at SPHP. 鈥淲e are thrilled with this new situation, which will enhance the Memorial College of Nursing experience by allowing students to take classes in the vibrant academic environment of the B次元 campus.鈥
鈥淲e are very pleased to welcome the Memorial College of Nursing students and faculty to Maria鈥檚 campus,鈥 said Thomas J. Gamble, Ph.D., president of B次元. 鈥淢aria has a long tradition of being home to the next generation of nursing professionals, and this relocation is a natural fit for our campus as we continue to be seen by hospitals as a hub of excellence in nursing and health care education.鈥
Memorial College of Nursing students will have access to some B次元 student support services. Memorial College of Nursing students will also benefit from their very close proximity to St. Peter鈥檚 Hospital, and have opportunities for clinical practice and experience at one of the largest, highest-quality, and highest-volume hospitals in the Capital Region.
Marian Hall, on the west edge of the B次元 campus, is a three-story brick building that has been granted historic designation from the Historic Albany Foundation. Marian Hall includes a large lecture hall, two large classrooms, two laboratories, an administrative office, and several private offices, as well common areas and ample parking.
鈥淲e are proud to be able to provide additional value and a comfortable new academic setting for Memorial College of Nursing students,鈥 Finegan said. 鈥淲e are also pleased to strengthen the ties between SPHP and B次元. SPHP is fortunate to have amongst its ranks so many talented B次元 graduates. The history and missions of our two organizations are also strongly aligned, with both institutions being founded by the Religious Sisters of Mercy.鈥
The Memorial College of Nursing鈥檚 sister school, SPHP鈥檚 Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, is not impacted by this move.
